(Eyes closed – long, deep breath – big smile) “Yes honey, I’m behind you all the way. I’m not sure how it will work out, but you believe this is what the Lord has for us and I’m going to help you with anything you need.”
That was the answer. The question? Oh, it could have been anything.
“Jenny, we’re selling the house and moving to a hut in Africa.”
“I quit my job today, we’re going to travel the country and preach and sing. Like the Pent family.”
“Jen Jen, (my husband’s pet name for me) I turned down that job (the one that would have made us $2,000 this week). I’m writing a book instead.”
Nervous yet? Some of those statements would be enough to make even the stablest of wives shudder with fear. Fear can be good sometimes. I can’t count the number of times we are told in God’s word to fear Him. Dueteronomy 10:12 “…fear the Lord your God.” Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Over and over again, we are to fear Him. Over and over again, we are told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. But fear of the unknown? That’s a big no-no!
Deuteronomy 1:21 “…fear not, neither be discouraged.”
Luke 8:50 “…fear not, believe only.”
We are not to be afraid of the unknown. We are to “trust and obey.” Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” So we believe. We step out in faith and follow that not so perfect man we married years ago. Ultimately it is the Lord we are following. He leads our husband, our husband leads us.
My reality? Number three. It’s true! Several weeks ago someone called and asked my super handy man/builder of custom homes husband to install a new roof on their house. We were about to profit $2,000. He gave the job to a friend so that he could write a book instead. To those of you reading, no big deal. Here in my life, huge deal. Let me repeat that, HUGE! My husband doesn’t get online, he doesn’t write books, he doesn’t even type properly. Can you say “hunt and peck?”
But he did. He wrote it, and it is going to bless Christian men! I wrote one too. And today we are giving away a download of each. Nurturing A Godly Wife is my husband’s eBook that gives encouragement and instruction to men on loving their wives biblically. Encouraging Challenges is my eBook, and is a supplement to Sarah Mae’s 31 Days to Clean. I wrote it because her book was so amazing I didn’t want it to end! I wrote it to give myself a few more challenges and lots more inspiration. And I wrote it for you too!
In closing, dear ladies, follow your man. Let your husband lead, even down unknown paths. Follow and support him along the way, find joy in the journey and weary not in well doing.
Many blessings to you!!
