Do you remember spending countless of hours watching Little House on the Prairie when you were little?
I do, and what fun it would be to rehash some of those old memories with our daughters. One of the ways you can bring back the memories of the Pioneers days would be to cook some food from that time period.
The Little House Cookbook has over 100 authentic Pioneer recipes to try!
I remember as a child enjoying dressing up in costume, braiding my hair, and having tons of fun pretending I was Laura! The Little House on the Prairie bonnets would have come in handy while we would be playing dress-up:
I stumbled across these adorable Little House on the Prairie 1880’s Dishware Set and had to share!
My daughters have made a few Pioneer -like dresses as they were growing up. Sometimes we would even find old dresses at the thrift store and turn them into them. But if you don’t want to make them you can find this one pictured above and more here.
Another favorite pastime is playing with the Little House Paperdolls:
I had no idea these existed but even found a Little House on the Prairie doll:
While I think these are a bit pricey, you could alternatively find a basic doll to dress up as Laura or Mary in Pioneer doll clothes:
They even have cute doll accessories for imaginative fun like these:
Don’t forget to read the books together –right now they are about half off:
(for younger children)
(for older children)
Or watch the series on DVD (on sale now for half off right now too):
Or simply view it on Amazon Video.
This would make a fun educational lesson for your homeschool too if you need a fresh idea or inspiration! You could include it in a Pioneer Unit study and even use lapbooks for an additional resource. I have found one here for you.
I hope you have fun sharing some childhood favorite memories
from Little House on the Prairie with your daughter!
