Bloom Where You’re Planted – Christian Homemaking

Uncategorized

The clouds have finally rolled back and the sun is shining brightly each day. I grabbed a chair this past weekend and sat in the middle of the yard. Curiosity was getting the best of me. There was so much going on in my neighborhood. Neighbors doing yard work. The sound of mowers humming said Spring is here. I wanted to see. I wanted to see everything. Especially, my husband as he was planting new rosebushes and azaleas in the front yard.

He planted the first azalea and asked if that’s where I wanted it. Of course that’s where I wanted it. I was just happy to get new flowers…

Earlier that morning as we visited the nursery, the salesman talked to us about planting the flowers in the right place. I learned more about planting flowers within the first 15 minutes of our conversation than I have my entire life. We were sold on this rosebush because it will bloom where ever we planted it along the flowerbed on the front of the house.

As I sat there and watched the planting process, my mind drifted on my roots. I pray that my roots run deep. Deep into the soil where I have been planted. Then, I asked myself, “Have I bloomed where I feel as though God has planted me?”

God has planted me in my home.

Before my husband and I got married, we knew that I would be the primary caretaker of our home. In the early years of homemaking the biggest struggle was loneliness. Fast forward to now, there are times that I still feel lonely. Not as much due to social media and meeting so many like-minded women.

However, I have noticed something. So many of those like-minded women are becoming fewer in numbers as time goes by. I’m sure, like me, they are bombarded with the question, “Now what?”

Now that my children are grown. Now that a cooked meal can last a few days and I don’t have to cook dinner every evening. Now that I don’t have to sweep nor mop the floor each day. Now what?

For me, it’s time to make sure that my roots at home run deep and I’m blooming right where I am planted. If I uproot myself too early there may be a delay in my growth.

If you are reading this, I would like to issue a challenge to you. I challenge you to bloom where you are planted. In order to do that, sometimes we need to take inventory of the soil our roots are planted in. Take time this Spring season and dig out the weeds that come along to choke the life out of you.

God is constantly working on the hearts of His daughters. His work in us is continuous. He wants us to blossom as we show the world the beauty of His handiwork.

Bloom. Bloom where God has planted you.

“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” -Psalm 1:3
