How to Save Money at the Thrift Store – Christian Homemaking

Uncategorized

Are you a fan of thrift store shopping? I know some of you view it as a sport and can find all kinds of things there from clothes to craft supplies to school books.

When the children were younger and money was tighter we shopped a few thrift stores that we liked and would come away with some unexpected treasures!

So today I wanted to share a few tips to help you save money at when you go thrifting.

1. Shop sales – yes, there are special days when you can get up to half off or more. Some days they even have clearances and are practically giving away items for free. Find out what those days are (every shop is different) and mark your calendar.

2. Go with a list– Know what you are going in for before you walk through the door. Without a list you might buy more than you need and waste money. If you are on a budget stick to your list and don’t stray to far from it!

3. Think ahead – Many times you can get great deals buying larger sizes for your children and thinking and planning for a season ahead. Buying winter clothes in the summer for example.

4. Shop early – most stores put out their best before they open and the best picks will be gone by noon. While others receive clothes and place them out in the afternoon. Find out what the best time is for your favorite store.

5. Reward Cards – some places offer reward cards where the more you buy the more points you get towards a future discount. Ask your store what they offer.

6. Don’t buy what you don’t need – the temptation to buy more because items are so cheap is real but if you don’t need it, don’t get it! Too much stuff also produces clutter and can take away from the simple life you’d like to enjoy.
