Dear Christian mother, are you troubled?
Are there anxieties plaguing you?
Do you feel inadequate and are the daily responsibilities of your calling weighing you down?
Maybe there are personal trials you are struggling with – trials of health or relationships?
I was struck today in reading Psalm 77 how David found comfort in his God in his trials. In this precious chapter David is pouring out his heart. We are not talking about a little sadness here. We are talking about deep grief with bitter weeping, anxieties…even unable to sleep.
Can you relate in any way to the sorrows that he described? He is overwhelmed and his spirit is failing. His strength is gone and he does not feel he can go on.
But it doesn’t end there. He shares with us in verse 10 the remedy. And that is to think on the Lord’s past wondrous works and speak of them to others. To consider how the Lord has worked so gloriously in the past and this buoys up his heart. He engages in meditation upon our Lord and David stays himself upon his God. Do you need to be buoyed up today? Take heart in these verses!
In the last verse of the Psalm he remembers how Jehovah led his people like a flock.
Dear one, to be lead by the Lord means He goes before us!
To be led like a flock means He is tender and wise.
What gentleness does this imply as our Shepherd cares for us!
May it encourage you today to lean on this dear Shepherd–let Him carry you and bear your burden!
I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.3 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. 10 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.11 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?14 Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.17 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.18 The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
