Doing What I Was Made to Do – Raising Homemakers

Uncategorized

Do you ever have those moments when everything seems so right in your world that it brings you to tears?

I’ve had them a lot:  new babies being born, a perfect day out with my husband, making soup…

What?  Making soup?

I spent this whole last Saturday baking bread, muffins, and other wonderful homemade things with all natural ingredients.  It was the beginning of a change for us—small steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

All day long, I had a pot of chicken broth simmering. Bright carrots, crunchy celery, a big yellow onion, a huge bunch of parsley, several herbs, and, of course, chicken, all worked together to bring our family a massive pot of chicken broth that will be enjoyed all next month.

At one point during the day, I was standing at the oven, stirring, and I was overcome with tears. The realization that I was putting time, energy, effort, and love into creating these delicious and healthy things for my family suddenly became more than just “what I was doing”.  I realized that I was doing what I was made to do.

There are a lot of reasons why God has me living at this point in history, in the marriage, family and location that I’m in.  Most of those reasons have to do with the other 10 people living in this home He has provided for us. I probably will never know the impact I’m having on my family and friends by faithfully living out the life God has called me to—but that’s ok. I’m just blessed to be content in doing it.
