The homemaker’s life can encompass a vast amount of tasks and roles. Our work at home is great and varied. We also may have many things that we have to do repeatedly every day, or almost every day, such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, teaching our children, organizing, etc. We may also treat our family for illness and injury, do the shopping, organize paperwork, set up appointments, run errands, and whatever else we need to do to keep the home running smoothly. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. Sometimes we take it for granted that we are home and running a household. We may get lazy or distracted in our work at home, doing the minimal amount to just get by. And, at times, we may grumble and complain.
Is it because we expect the house to stay clean forever once we’ve cleaned it? The meals to no longer need cooking? The clothes to no longer need washing? But these are things that will always need doing. We should remember this and expect this. And, we should accept this with joy! Our little (and bigger) children are watching us every day to see how we view our work at home. Is it a joy to serve our families in the sphere of home, the way God has ordained? Or do we act like we would rather be somewhere else?

Wouldn’t it make an astounding difference, not only in the quality of the work we do, but also in the satisfaction, even our joy, if we recognized God’s gracious gift in every single task?
The Lord knows our hearts, and so we if we struggle with this, we need to pray to our heavenly Father to help us have His view of our work at home. We see in the Bible that He greatly values a mother loving her husband, loving her children, and being a keeper at home. We need to remember this each day when we wake up, and remind ourselves throughout our busy days! We have important work to do at home that has been given to us by the Lord Himself. How blessed are we. Let us have that joy in the Lord and in our blessed occupation, so that it will radiate out to our families. For homemaking, and each task therein, is God’s gracious gift to us.
