3 Easy Ways to Cook Pumpkin – Raising Homemakers

Uncategorized

Fall is here and that means pumpkin time!

I am sure you are seeing pumpkin recipes pop up everywhere and rightfully so— pumpkin is a healthy and nutritional choice for many and full of vitamins. So be sure to incorporate some pumpkin into your menus this this season.

Today we are sharing three easy ways to cook pumpkin. I have talked with many women over the years, even older ones, who did not know how to cook pumpkin. I knew how because when I was first married my mother-in-law taught me how and since then I learn a few other ways.

Let me start with the easiest way:

If you have a pumpkin that can fit in your crockpot (like a pie pumpkin) you can just thoroughly wash your pumpkin and pop it right in. You might need to cut down or take the stem off entirely for it to fit. Cook on high for five hours. When it is done you should be able to easily cut it in half and scoop the seeds out with a spoon. Then remove from crock and scoop out the flesh. This method is best because it retains most of the vitamins. I cook all squashes this way including butternut, acorn, and spaghetti.

Wash your pumpkin down, cut it in half and remove the seeds.

Then continue to cut into large pieces and put into a pot of boiling water.

Boil until soft and tender and remove from water.

Wash pumpkin, seed it, and cut into medium-large size pieces.

Lay it on a baking sheet and cook for fifty minutes to an hour (depending on your oven) at 350 degrees until it is fork tender. Then remove pumpkin from the skin when cool.

Don’t forget to save the seeds and bake them too!
