6 Ways to Make Cleaning More Enjoyable – Raising Homemakers

Uncategorized

Earlier this month when I was spring cleaning, I got inspired to do this post and share some of my tips to make cleaning more enjoyable. Yes, it is possible to enjoy cleaning your home and here are my tips:
1. Remind yourself of Philippians 2:14 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16.

“Do everything without complaining or arguing.”

-1 Thessalonians 5:16 (NLT)

 2. Listen to music– doing this will make cleaning fun. Believe me, it really works. Especially upbeat music or the radio. I enjoy the Getty’s, Point of Grace, Michael W. Smith, Celtic music or  Rend Collective when I clean.

3. Clean regularly. If you clean on a regular basis, it won’t be as bad. It will be easier and take less time.

4. Have a system. For each room or area have a system- do this first, next, last. I know when I clean my room just how I will clean it every time. Dust ceiling fan first, remove sheets and blankets from bed, side table and radio, dressers and wall decorations, chair and rocking chair, TV, bookshelf and wall shelf, end table, desk, then vacuum. This is true for every room. When I walk into a room that I have to clean, I know exactly what order I go in. Having a system saves you time and makes the whole thing easier.

5. Decide before you begin that you will have a joyful attitude and purpose to enjoy yourself. Stress less. Enjoy more. If you tell yourself before you even begin that you are going to be joyful and not complain (remember the verses above) and if you purpose to enjoy yourself- you will. It all starts with your attitude!

 6. Clean to the glory of God! If may sound crazy to some, but God cares about the littlest and most mundane parts of life- even cleaning. So when you clean, clean as if Jesus was your guest of honor. Remind yourself of these verses:

“Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

-1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as to the Lord and not for men.”

BONUS TIP: Use the “Mary Poppins” method. Especially if you have younger children! If you’ve ever seen the movie Mary Poppins, then you know that in the movie there is some really good advice on doing jobs and getting tasks done. This is especially important if you have younger children that are wanting to help- let them. Give them a little job to do and make it fun.

In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.

I hope that some of these tips will help you to make cleaning more enjoyable in your home. After all we all have to clean, so why not enjoy the task.

Many blessings to you as you serve in your homes to the glory of Almighty God!
