Americans crave to be full – we want full stomachs, full closets, full garages, full toy boxes, and full calendars. Americans have more stuff than any nation in the world and we have placed our hope and dreams in this stuff. We find joy in the next meal, the next fun experience, or our next purchase. But we only feel full for a few moments and then we are empty again and have to go back out and try to get full again from something else.
Are we role modeling our cravings or contentment? Beth Moore says “
Any craving is a red flag that we are not being satisfied in God. What makes people want to get drunk or high? They want to feel different because they are empty.”
Maybe you don’t get drunk or high – but are you craving stuff? It’s an American epidemic that is going to ruin our country if we don’t stop.
Do you long for God in this way? Do you spend time with Him everyday and fulfill those longings?
I remember when Keith and I were on a cruise – the food was spectacular – breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks in between and even a midnight chocolate buffet! My stomach was satisfied – there was never a chance for me to even get hungry!
Can you say that your soul is satisfied with Christ as with the richest of foods? As if you just sat at a buffet with Him all day long? God wants us to be completely satisfied in Him – complete and lacking nothing.
Don’t just be pacified by what the world offers – like a baby is with his pacifier – but be like a baby who has just finished his bottle – fully satisfied. Be fully satisfied with Christ. Teach your daughters this lesson for “godliness with contentment is great gain.” (I Timothy 6:6)
