The Season of Autumn Nostalgia or Not

Today we have a special post by our sweet contributer, Jenny, from A Mother’s Heritage:

I love fall! I think it’s become my favorite time of the year. The crisp air and cool breezes, apple picking, starting up the fireplace for the first time, leaf raking, pumpkin pie and all the fall delicacies! People begin to slow down from the busy pace of summer and start to consider the coziness of the chilly nights as a family again. I love pulling out the sweaters and walks to enjoy the leaves changing. We love to take day trips to the mountains to behold the Creators beauty and the vibrant colors.

One year we got to go over to our dear friends place and join them in their annual tradition of cooking apple butter. We made 7-10 gallons over a fire pit in their yard and had a blast! It will be a memory we always treasure.

Fall is a time of harvest. A time of reaping from the hard labor of summer.

Fall is about family traditions and togetherness.

So for me, I welcome the fall with all it’s blessings.

But, this time of year is not always accompanied with feelings of pleasure, nostalgia and good memories. For some people, this is a season that in the past brought very painful things. Maybe the death of a loved one happened around this time of year. Maybe seasonal depression begins to set in at this time. Maybe autumn is associated with a history of loss. And it is to this group of people that I speak today. I want you to know that you are not alone. The Lord puts His children’s tears in a bottle and He can turn your mourning into joy. He remembers your pain and is tender with His children. And just as the seasons change, it will be springtime again.

My challenge for those of you who this season brings joy and comfort to you is to seek out those who might be struggling and with tenderness bring a bit of sunshine to their day through a scripture verse, a baked goodie, or just a hug.

Blessings to you all this fall season!
