Embracing Each Day

Blooming Spirea

A year ago we took cuttings from these hedges to use as centerpieces at a dear friend’s wedding. Her original plan for flowers wasn’t working out, and God’s perfect timing provided the blooming spirea shrubs in our yard. As they bloomed, God provided the answer to last-minute flower troubles – and a reminder to trust Him with the details.

They’re blooming again this week, which has brought back memories of that precious event, but also made me stop to think about the past year and all that has happened since then. Our family has gone through one of our busiest and most blessed season of our lives. It was full of large projects, home businesses, health issues, cooking, hospitality, work, gardening, healthy changes, etc. Some days seemed to blend right into the next, or the work on a project seemed like it would never come to an end. But one of the things that the Lord has taught us through all of this is to embrace each day and the joys and challenges that come with them.

How can we do that when things seem so busy and full? By acknowledging Him in all things; learning to be thankful in all things; rejoicing in His sovereignty; praising Him throughout the day; resting in His strength. These are things that will help us to honor Him with our days and enjoy Him throughout each and every one, no matter how full it seems.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12

Shari, the flowers are a blooming spirea shrub. We have a long hedge of them – they’re beautiful!
