“Mom! You’ve got to read this!”  Says my 16 year old daughter last night.  She’s a huge Spurgeon fan, and she’d found a website with random quotes of his.   “What does it say?” I ask.  So she reads:

“You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them
up in God’s fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for
God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of
hosts.”   C.H. Spurgeon

Ahhh, yes!  She wasn’t kidding.  Words like that are life to our souls.  That encouragement, the reassurance that what we do in our homes is not only good, but mighty!

“…making your household a church for God…”  Inspiration for us to read God’s word to our children each day!

“…called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.”  How true are his words!  Doesn’t that remind you of Psalm 127:3-5?

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.  Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”

Another picture of us preparing our children for the outside world someday.   That someday when we shoot out those arrows to live a life worthy of the LORD, to serve Him with their whole hearts.

And, “training them up in God’s fear…” yet another reminder to pour our lives into our little ones (and the not so little ones).

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.”  Psalm 111:10

Praise our LORD for Charles Spurgeon quotes, for reminders from godly men and women of long ago and for His holy word!  They are water to a thirsty soul!

Excellent quote, and one I needed today. I’m printing it out and hanging it on the wall of the dining room, which is also our homeschooling room.

SAHMs are raising the next generation of citizens- auto mechanics, mayors, doctors, shop keepers, tailors, husbands, neighbors, chefs, hair dressers, manicurists, physical therapists, teachers… Is there really any higher calling??
