The Hope Chest……
Oh, what treasures, love and beauty it can hold inside.
A small wooden box served as my hope chest when I was younger and an old vintage trunk from my Grandma is what I use now.
No matter the style, color or size~ the hope chest is an essential for any homemaker-in training.I take great delight in filling my hope chest with beloved heirlooms…special pieces not only for myself, but for future generations.
A hope chest legacy is vast and far reaching.
Some of the items in a hope chest may include
practical things such as treasured table cloths, china
pillowcases, blankets, quilts, aprons, cookbooks, dish towels.
It also may include~ worthy books, letters of wisdom,
Bibles and even beloved hand written journals.
The beautiful act of preparing a Hope chest for future generations
is also more than preserving heirlooms in a box, but it includes~ learning useful homemaking skills that will bless your family & friends such as cooking, baking, sewing, decorating,
housecleaning, gardening, frugality and so much more.
When buying or making a gift for a young maiden, it might be worthy to consider
if this “gift” will be something that she could put in her hope chest
or use on a practical bases to improve her homemaking endeavors.
Mrs. Jennie Chancey so beautifully states…
“We must impress beautiful thoughts and high ideals upon our girls
if we hope to see their lives blossom into rewarding womanhood.
A hope chest is a wonderful way to bring to life an old tradition or begin a new one.
As we place treasures into hope chests for our daughters, may we also invest time and love into
their hearts so that they enter life with a storehouse of love, womanly skills, able minds, and contentment.“
How can we encourage and inspire this generation to value the homemaking arts?
Well, put simply, to read, study and delight in the words of Titus 2, to look
to the Proverbs 31 woman as a role model and view preparing for
that goal as a worthy, noble & sacred one.
The hope chest is a beautiful reminder of what we are preparing for~
contented productive singleness, mission driven marriage,
& godly fruitful motherhood.
More beautiful than a resume listing various occupations
and positions… that treasured box holds within it hope, beauty,
joy & tells of a woman’s heart which is turned towards home.
Be inspired to bless your family today and future generations by preserving
heirlooms and learning skills that are far more precious than rubies.
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”

What a great idea! One of my good friends had a hope chest when we were growning up, and I always loved looking through it with her. I will print this off and put it in my daughter’s baby book where I keep ideas of traditions I want to start as she gets a little older!
Hi! Thanks for sharing your wonderful thoughts about hope chests! I remember my friend’s hope chest and the wonderful treasures she had stored there!!! I love the idea of a hope chest — count me in!
my hope chest wasn’t begun until my junior year in college! I look forward to helping my daughter with hers much much sooner!! Praise God!
I have been hand-making items for years now and I finally got an “official” hope chest (made of wood rather than plastic storage tubs)! Please enter me.
Oooh! Fun! I’ve only recently started working on mine. And I’m nearly 19.
My Grandparents gave me lovely set of dishes, and I have started quilts, not to mention all the little baby clothes my mom made when I was little.
And I have a huge cedar chest that’s my moms that everything goes in.
I’d love to win the book for my daughters. Thanks!
I sent two emails about your giveaway.
Hi,
I’d like to be entered into the giveaway, please. It looks lovely.

A hope chest for my Hope girl! Thanks for the great ideas.
I really enjoyed this article. I have two girls and have heard of a hope chest but had no idea what it really was. I would love to be entered in the giveaway for this book so I can learn even more about passing this and other legacies on to my girls. Thanks for your blog!
Hi I’m just starting my hope chest. I’m only 11 but I’m ready for it. I won’t start on the kitchen utensils for a while, but I’m working on the other part anyone have some
ideas?
I ordered this about two months ago and have not heard a thing about my order!
I paid for it and everything and was very excited to read it, but am very upset that I have not heard a word from anyone about the order and would love my money back more than the book now that it has been so long. Hmmmm…… trying to figure this out as I feel very crushed.
