Homemade Spiced Chai

KitchenColorizedIf you know me personally you know that a day is not complete without a mug of this creamy drink!  It is the perfect companion with my Bible and some quiet time.

Spiced Chai

1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French Vanilla non-dairy creamer
2-1/2 cups sugar
1-1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea granules
1 t. ground ginger
1 t. ground cinnamon
1/2 t. each: ground cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, allspice
1/8 t. white pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Blend the mixture, in small batches, in a food processor until the consistency of fine powder. Store in an air tight jar. Stir 3-4 heaping tablespoons into a mug of hot milk to serve.  Top with whipped cream!  Enjoy!  Mmm mmm…yummy!

I love making and drinking chai like this at home, but I have the hardest time finding the instant tea granules. Where have you found it? I’ve looked everywhere! Perhaps grocery stores in my area just don’t carry it. As a substitute, I had the chai mix (without instant tea) to a cup full of hot water with a black tea bag and let it steep for a few minutes. It turns out well that way too.

You can get the French vanilla as a powder or liquid. I bought the liquid last week with a sale and coupon (ended up being free!!) so I just add a little bit (2 T.-ish) to my mug when I warm up the milk in the microwave.

Yep it is like powdered milk… folks use it in their coffee instead of milk because it’s creamer more like .. well cream! LOL

Just and FYI:
I made this today! YAY! I made some with milk as suggested but I also made it with boiling water and that was just fine. We found it a little sweet (well most of us did 😉 ) and I think I would double the spices because we are a spicy bunch! The mix made with milk seemed sweeter than w/ water.. ? LOL I have a daughter who loves chai, and I think this is just the ticket!
